Donetsk State Academic Russian Opera & Ballet Theatre was founded in 1932. During 66 years of its activity the theatre had achieved the acknowledgement not only in Ukraine but in all countries of the world. Since 1989 ballet and opera troupe of the theatre made successful tours about America, Italy, Spain, Portuguese, France, Norway, Russia and other countries of the world.

During 66 years of its activity the theatre has more than 200 performances of the best Opera & Ballet masterpieces of the world and native classics of the modern authors.

 

HISTORY

The first season of the Donetsk state Opera & Ballet Theatre was opened with "Kniyz Igor" by A. Borodin, 1st September 1932 Lugansk, Ukraine.

Michael Verikovsky was the first conductor of the travelling (mobile opera of the right bank Ukraine), on the bases of which Donetsk Opera & Ballet Theatre was founded in 1941 according to the plan of  Ludvig Kotovsky. The theatre opened his first season in Donetsk with opera "Ivan Susanin" by M.Glinka on the 12th of April 1941. The first art-adviser of the theatre was an outstanding opera conductor Ivan Lapitsky.
